Polarización Circular y Rotación de Faraday en Enlaces Móviles Satelitales

Technical analysis and engineering reference.

1. Why Linear Polarization Fails Across Space Links

Terrestrial cell towers use vertically or cross-polarized linear antennas. However, as radio waves travel through the magnetized plasma of Earth's ionosphere, the interaction between electromagnetic fields and charged electrons induces Faraday rotation, rotating the plane of linear polarization unpredictably by dozens of degrees. If a handheld linear antenna is misaligned with the incoming wave, polarization mismatch loss exceeds 20 dB, completely dropping the call.

2. Engineering Internal Right-Hand Circular Polarization (RHCP)

To achieve immunity against Faraday rotation and random user holding angles, NTNDevice deploys circularly polarized antenna elements: - Dual-feed microstrip patches excited with a 90-degree phase hybrid splitter. - Generating rotating electric vectors that maintain constant energy capture regardless of whether the user holds the phone vertically, horizontally, or places it flat on a table.

3. Human Body Absorption Mitigation

The human hand and head absorb RF energy severely in the 2 GHz S-band. Dynamic antenna switching arrays detect which side of the handset is shielded by human fingers, automatically steering active RF transmission to the unshaded edge facing the open sky.
